The Perkin Elmer 9700 PCR Thermo Cycler system was designed specifically for high-sample-volume PCR applications (both DNA and RNA). The heated lid and unique Thermal Isolation Frame ensure oil-free operation in the 0.5 mL format.
Designed with an interchangeable sample block, the 0.5 mL GeneAmp PCR System 9700 can easily be expanded to an 0.2 mL, 96-well format. Operating modes include block mode and 0.5 mL mode. Block mode, similar to the original DNA Thermal Cycler and DNA Thermal Cycler 480, displays the sample block temperature.
The newer GeneAmp 9700 comes in a variety of formats. The blocks can be interchanged to accommodate 60 0.5-ml tubes, 96 0.2-ml tubes, a 96-well plate, or dual 384-well plates for high-throughput needs. The system features a small footprint, PCMCIA card and RS485 communications ports, Peltier heating, graphical programming interface, and an optional MAX Mode.
With the MAX Mode option, a user can choose between a variety of software-driven modes. In 9600 emulation mode, the system follows cycling profiles like those found in the System 9600, achieving an average heating and cooling rate of 3.5C/second. Under Variable Ramp Mode, the power input can be adjusted to allow a range of ramping rates for specialized research applications. In Max Mode, heating and cooling rates can be increased up to 5C/second, and sample volumes can go up to 100 ul.
