DESCRIPTION: Global Medical Instrumentation, Inc. (GMI) provides re-certified to specification and new laboratory instrumentation and instrumentation service to research universities, medical and forensic investigators, start-ups, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, clinics, laboratories, chemical analysis and environmental firms in the United States and in more than 50 countries.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Field Service Engineer is responsible for the production, depot repair, and the service and training of Agilent Life Sciences and Chemical Analysis instrumentation. The Field Service Engineer reports to the Production/Field Service Manager and is a part of a team of professionals who provide expert technical assistance to GMI's customers.

MAJOR JOB DUTIES:

  • Provides production, depot repair, on-site installation, service and training of Agilent Life Sciences and Chemical Analysis instrumentation.
  • Performs in-house repairs/re-certifies, equipment installations, customer training, and services analytical instrumentation with minimal technical assistance and without direct supervision.
  • Educates and trains end user on product usage as well as product warranty services.
  • Maintains knowledge and understanding of legacy and current Agilent analytical instrumentation.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of electronic circuitry and schematics, including state-of-the-art devices and possesses the ability to effectively troubleshoot complex systems.
  • Develops and provides ongoing rapport and confidence with customers by providing timely and knowledgeable training and product installation.
  • Assesses service inquiries assuring for professionalism.
  • Maintains customer confidence through technical expertise.
  • Advises customers of equipment upgrades and accessories available for existing equipment.
  • Expands customer relations by selling service contracts to customers.
  • Evaluates and recommends products and services to satisfactorily resolve customers' problems/challenges.
JOB SKILLS:
  • Excellent, proven skills in the production and repair of Agilent Life Sciences and Chemical Analysis Instrumentation or a similar product line.
  • Excellent diagnostic skills in determining root cause of any deficiencies in the performance of Agilent (or similar product line) instruments at customer premises.
  • Superior customer service skills in answering inquiries and making recommendations for upgrades or available accessories.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and staff in a results-driven, team-oriented environment.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Electronics preferred, Physics, Chemistry, acceptable.
  • Three plus years in field service work, with specific experience in the installation and maintenance of Agilent (or similar product line) instrumentation.
  • Three plus years in the production and repair or re-certification of Agilent (or similar product line) instrumentation.
  • Willingness to commit to a travel schedule of approximately 25% to visit customers on-site.
  • Satisfactory computing skills (Microsoft family) and Internet research capability.
