Beckman Coulter Multisizer 3 Particle Counter: "Simply the best counter on the market!"

The Cadillac of particle counters, the Beckman Coulter Multisizer 3 Particle Counter is the most versatile particle size analyzer available today for a multitude of size range materials. It provides size and volume distributions in number, volume, surface area and mass, with an overall range of 0.4um-1200um.

The Beckman Coulter Multisizer 3 Particle Counter uses The Coulter Principle (Electrical Sensing Zone Method) to measure particle volume, a direct measurement of a physical property of the particle.

While retaining and enhancing the analogs circuits developed and refined by Coulter over many years, the Beckman Multisizer 3 incorporates the latest advances in electronics using state-of-the-art digitizing circuits. High-speed digitalization of the signal allows the use of pulse area analysis and other techniques for additional particle characterization. The resulting measurement data can be analyzed and formatted in numerous ways, or stored and re-analyzed at a later date with no need to analyze the sample again. The measurement data for each particle analyzed is stored. The Multisizer 3 automatically corrects for coincidence.

For biological or industrial applications, in quality control or research, the Beckman Multisizer 3 is simply the best.

Particles suspended in a weak electrolyte solution are drawn through a small aperture separating two electrodes between which an electric current flows. The voltage applied across the aperture creates a "sensing zone". As each particle passes through the aperture (or "sensing zone") it displaces its own volume of conducting liquid, momentarily increasing the impedance of the aperture.

This change in impedance produces a tiny but proportional current flow into an amplifier that converts the current fluctuation into a voltage pulse large enough to measure accurately. The Coulter Principle states that amplitude of this pulse is directly proportional to the volume of the particle that produced it. Scaling these pulse heights in volume units enables a size distribution to be acquired and displayed. In addition, if a metering device is used to draw a known volume of the particle suspension through the aperture, a count of the number of pulses will yield the concentration of particles in the sample.

    9. Self-contained analyzer and sample stand saves space in the laboratory.

The use of a Digital Pulse Processor (DPP) in the Multisizer 3 allows storing all the original information from the pulses generated at the moment of the analysis. High-speed digitalization of the signal allows the use of pulse area analysis and other techniques for additional particle characterization. This information may be used at a later time to recalculate the size distribution for a different range, number of channels, or even to change the calibration constant. It means you never have to reanalyze a sample again. In addition to the size distribution, the DPP data also calculates the pulse distribution in addition to the size distribution. By looking to the pulse distribution graph, it is possible to know if the sample preparation was stable over the length of the analysis. An unevenly distributed pulse pattern is indication of changes in the sample preparation than otherwise just with the size distribution graph wouldn't be possible be detected. Research for utilizing all the possibilities offered by the pulse data has just began.

The Beckman Coulter Mutisizer 3 has Fantastic Resolution

Resolution is the capability to differentiate between different particle sizes. Higher resolution means more detailed size information. The Multisizer 3 provides the highest resolution available for particle size distribution by measuring a real parameter of a particle, its volume. It can discriminate between two particles close in size better than any other instrument. Particles that are distributed under different size categories by the Beckman Coulter Multisizer 3 might be placed under one size category by other instruments or technologies. It means in many cases that if your particles or cells change in size, it won't be detected using another instrument than Multisizer 3. The Digital Pulse Processor (DPP) allows recalculating the original data for a narrower range. There is no need of 'Zooming IN' and therefore, the decrease in resolution.

Users of the Beckman Coulter Multisizer 3 will enjoy the flexibility and all the features offered by the software provided with this instrument. There is a myriad of information that can be obtained with just a click. The software allows the customization of SOP's, SOM's and printed reports. For biological or industrial applications, in quality control or research, the Multisizer 3 software will satisfy any requirements for the presentation of the results.

Beckman Coulter Multisizer 3 Calibration ?

Calibration of the Beckman Multisizer 3 is easy, simple and quick. The software automatically performs the calibration of the Multisizer 3. It provides consistency and confidence in the results of the analyses. In addition to the auto calibration, the software may perform a verification of the calibration at any time it is requested by the operator. The software will determine if the instrument is calibrated or needs a new calibration.
