Diode array spectrophotometers can completely gather UV/Visible absorbance spectra in as little as 100 milliseconds due to fixed grating. Instead of having the grating move about to obtain spectra, hundreds of detectors can be placed at the exit of the monochromator.
The HP 8452A Diode-Array Spectrophotometer is a single-beam, microprocessor-controlled spectrophotometer. The system has 512 detectors which are all integrated on a single silicon chip called a photodiode array. This model’s visible/UV - range of 190 to 820 nm with 2 nm resolution is used when speed of measurement is essential. The photo diode-array detection system found in the HP 8452A makes each unit faster, more sensitive and more precise than conventional spectrometers.
Spectrophotometer operation is further simplified on the HP 8452 spectrophotometer with the use of a deuterium discharge lamp for full UV and visible range. A computer with HP UV-Vis software can be used to run this diode-array spectrophotometer. The basic system is comprised of a computer, UV-Visible Rev-A software running on Windows 95, and a single cell holder. Additional accessories that can enhance device performance include special cell holders, peristaltic pumps, auto sampler, a multicell transport, a Peltier temperature control accessory, valve unit and valve pump controller.
