The Agilent HP 5971 Mass Spectrometer is a system that is a standalone detector designed for use with the HP 5890A Gas Chromatograph.
The MSD electronics provides real-time control according to setpoints and instructions from the data system. The data system sends operating parameters to the MSD and receives status information and data from the MSD.
Included in the data system software are programs to acquire data, process data and calibrate the MSD and utilities for editing and file management. Tuning programs can calibrate mass assignments, control the scanning of the mass analyzer and adjust voltages in the ion source. Data acquisition programs allow you to monitor the total ion current, automatically storing the mass spectra of GC peaks as they elute or, alternatively, to monitor the concentrations of particular ions.
